What do anger and frustration have in common? Regret and disappointment? Impatience and judgement? These are all thoughts. Words or images that go through the brain and take on certain meanings. Next time you experience one of these emotions, tell yourself “these are just thoughts”. You don’t have to do anything about them, because they will pass by, like clouds in the sky. Byron Katie’s advice is wonderful: once you’ve identified the thought that bothers you, ask ‘Who would I be without that thought?’ You will find that the person or situation that was upsetting you will be in a newer, happier light. Remember, you are not your thoughts.
